What does an increase in Chemo pills mean?

I am asking only because a friend has had his pills increased. He told me that this meant that they were working but that doesn’t sound right to me. I feel like he may be holding back. He has been through this before but it is the third time and I feel like he may be tired of fighting.

He has had an increase in the amount of pills he must take. Sometimes a Dr. starts someone on a low dose to see if the medication is tolerated and then increase them up to a dose that is stronger and will be even more effective.
