My cat purposely knocks over a fresh litter box and rolls around in the litter on his back. Why? ?

No matter how many times I put the litter back in the box he goes straight back to it, knocks it over, and rolls around purring like crazy. In his own litter. Granted, it’s clean, but still… Who wants to literally lay where they poop?
I’d have to suggest that person with the “I hate cats” rant just go ahead and not peruse cat blogs all day… just at thought.
